Police are investigating a collision between a transit bus and car in Burnaby Monday evening.

Two passengers were injured and traffic disrupted when a transit bus and car collided in North Burnaby Monday evening, according to Burnaby RCMP

First responders were called to the intersection of Hastings Street and Inlet Drive just before 7 p.m. for reports of a collision, according to Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj.

At the scene, they found an articulated bus and a car that had collided in the middle of the intersection.

The bus, an R5 RapidBus headed to Burrard Station from SFU, had been traveling westbound and collided with the car, which had been traveling eastbound, according to Kalanj.

He said one passenger was taken to hospital with a possible head injury, while another suffered a minor leg injury and was treated at the scene.

A photo of the incident shows airbags deployed inside the car.

The bus appears undamaged.

Burnaby RCMP is investigating the crash.

“It appears they both thought they had the right of way,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said. “We’ll find out.”

He said police will know more once dashcam video is downloaded from the transit bus.
