A Mustang came to rest under a sheared hydro pole after a crash at Kingsway and Griffiths Avenue in Burnaby Saturday morning.

A 40-year-old man was taken to hospital Saturday morning after his RAV4 was t-boned at the intersection of Kingsway and Griffiths Avenue in Burnaby.

Burnaby RCMP got reports of a collision at the intersection at about 10:15 a.m., according to spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj.

He said it appears a Mustang travelling eastbound on Kingsway collided with a RAV4 turning south onto Griffiths.

“The Mustang then drove into a hydro pole, causing the pole to fall onto the Mustang,” Kalanj said.

The 40-year-old driver of the RAV4 – the vehicle’s only occupant – was taken to hospital with neck and back pain, according to Kalanj.

The 75-year-old driver of the Mustang – also his vehicle's only occupant – was treated at the scene.

Speed was “very likely a factor” in the crash, according to Kalanj, but alcohol has been ruled out.

Kalanj said the Mustang had allegedly been speeding.

The crash is under investigation.
