Looking to have some casual, candid conversations around death and grief?
This new event in Burnaby will help you have meaningful "end-of-life" conversations over a pint of beer.
"Death over Drafts," a community gathering held at Steamworks Brewery and Taproom in Burnaby on Saturday, Sept. 16 will allow local residents to come together to discuss death and the dying in hopes of sparking curiosity and connection.
Hosted by self-appointed "Death over Draft crafter" Elizabeth Toward, the event is free for everyone to attend and brings two passions — craft beer and conversations on end of life — together.
The Death over Drafts gathering comes at the heels of another death-related gathering earlier in the summer.
Death Café — also hosted by Toward, who received a Neighbourhood Small Grant to host a series of three death-themed events in the community.
Like Death Café, the Death over Drafts gathering is also considered a supportive community rather than a support group, and will include 30 minutes of mingling, 60 minutes of playing The Death Deck, followed by 30 minutes of additional mingling and conversation.
The goal is to come together over craft beer for conversation about death and provide an opportunity for those who serve in the end-of-life field to gather and reflect personally and professionally.
While Death Cafés have been held across Canada and the world, the September Death over Drafts will be the first of its kind — not just in B.C., but in Canada.
