You can tell the City of Burnaby how it’s doing with new bike infrastructure around Edmonds town centre at an open house this month.
The city has built and upgraded cycling routes around the neighbourhood as part of a “quick build” project using low-cost materials to quickly construct cycling routes.
The city built a protected bike lane on Kingsway exclusively for bicycles, a neighbourhood bikeway on Mary Avenue which shares the road with vehicles (and includes traffic calming), and a multi-use pathway on 15th Street for those cycling, walking or rolling.
Now the city wants to hear people’s experiences with the new routes.
An survey is available online, and open houses will be held in October:
- Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Edmonds Community Centre
- Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Edmonds Community Centre.
The city shared public engagement responses after an earlier phase of the project.
Survey respondents told the city over 13 comments they preferred separated cycling routes throughout the network as they’re more comfortable for youth and recreational cyclists.
Five comments did not support constructing more bike lanes.
Participants also mostly said access to the SkyTrain station and being able to bring bikes on the SkyTrain were the most important to them, out of a list of options.
