It's the first long weekend of 2025, and there's lots to do in Burnaby!
Whether you want to jam to jazzy tunes at the Shadbolt or groove to the rhythm of African drums in a workshop at Edmonds Community Centre, local families have a variety of events to pick from.
Jazz at the 'Bolt
Celebrate the fifth year of Jazz at the 'Bolt this Family Day weekend.
Founded by Cory Weeds, this year’s festival will feature four bands from New York City and artists from Houston, Toronto and more.

African Drumming Workshop
The City of Burnaby is honouring Black History Month with free workshops this month.
African drumming instructor Israel (Toto) Berriel will guide participants through a dynamic drumming workshop where all instruments will be provided. Registration is required.
While the family workshop is already full, there’s still space in the adult and youth classes, so register quickly!
When: Saturday, Feb. 15 – adult session runs 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and youth session runs 7 to 8 p.m.

Cost: Free, registration required (adults and youth)
Burnaby Comedy Classic
Produced by Jokers Canada, this show, featuring a host of great professional Canadian stand-up comedians, will make you giggle and laugh.
Comics will include Syd Bosel (Canada’s Got Talent, CBC Debaters), Chris Griffin (voted best touring comic) Aaron Arya (JFL Vancouver), and more.
The 19+ event may contain adult language and content.
When: Saturday, Feb. 15 at 8:30 p.m.

Bossa Burnaby Card Show
Get ready for the monthly Bossa sports card and collectibles show this weekend with 95 vendors ready to buy, sell or trade. Some dealers will specialize in Pokémon cards.
“If it has to do with sports and collecting together, you will find it here!” says the website.
When: Sunday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: $10, tickets available online (select between “morning” or “afternoon” timeslots)
Family Day at a Burnaby community centre
Many Burnaby community centres are hosting activities this holiday Monday.
Bill Copeland Sports Centre will host a toonie skate, family hockey and ringette; Bonsor is planning a family swim; and Christine Sinclair Centre will have drop-in games, crafts and more.
