Burnaby goalie wins player of the week in East Coast league

The 26-year-old Burnaby native went 4-0 with a goals against average of 1.88 and save percentage of .937 to help extend the Jackals win streak to five games, including three wins by shootout, and move into first place in the Atlantic Division standings.

Stewart stopped 21 shots and all three shootout attempts in a 3-2 Elmira win at Reading last week.

He then stopped 38 shots and another four penalty-shot opportunities in a 5-4 shootout victory over Trenton on Dec. 2.

The Burnaby keeper also backstopped Elmira to a 3-1 win in a rematch over Reading, and later ended the week with another shootout win over Trenton, stopping 31 shots in a 2-1 win.

Stewart has yet to be scored upon in a shootout in two seasons in the minors, registering a perfect 21-for-21 shutout record when facing skaters one-on-one.

Under contract to Binghampton of the American Hockey League, Stewart has a career record of 28-9-0 in the East Coast league and a save percentage of .925. He has appeared in 13 AHL games, all with Philadelphia Flyers' affiliate Adirondack.
