Burnaby pair named to national u-17 squad

Canada Soccer unveiled its roster for the 2017 CONCACAF men’s under-17 championships, with four members of the Vancouver Whitecaps’ program getting the call.

Canada Soccer unveiled its roster for the 2017 CONCACAF men’s under-17 championships, with four members of the Vancouver Whitecaps’ program getting the call.
Burnaby natives Michael Baldisimo and Alessandro Hojabrpour join fellow Whitecaps u-16 residency program prospects Jose Hernandez and Jake Ruby to the 20-player roster.
The tournament begins April 21 in Panama.
Baldisimo was recently promoted to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC2 lineup, where he plays in the pro USL circuit.
A part of the Whitecaps residency program since 2011, Baldisimo came up through the Burnaby Select club. He made his national team debut in 2015.
Hojabrpour, who like Baldisimo is a midfielder, has been a member of the ’Caps program since 2014.
Hernandez, a forward from Edmonton, and Ruby, of North Vancouver, round out the other Lower Mainland players chosen.
The CONCACAF pits 12 nations in a qualification tourney for the 2017 FIFA u-17 World Cup.
