Canada's national women's soccer team lost its final game of the FIFA World Cup following a 1-0 loss to Nigeria Tuesday.
Nigerian midfielder Perpetua Nkwocha scored for the African champion in the 84th minute of the final Group A match in Dresden, Germany.
Nigeria dominated the Canadian women in time of possession, with 55 per cent of the play. The Nigerians also outshot the No. 6-ranked Maple Leafs 15-8.
Canada had just two shots on goal, bring the team's total shots on target in the World Cup to just three, including team captain Christine Sinclair's goal off a free kick in a 2-1 loss to Germany in the group opener.
Host Germany topped the group with a 4-2 win over France earlier in the day.
Final group matches continue tomorrow Thursday.
Quarter-final games begin on Saturday, with England meeting France and defending two-time World Cup champion Germany facing Japan.
