You can’t have March madness without February Fever.
The playoffs are here, beginning on the local circuit with berths and seedings on the line.
In the Burnaby-New West senior circuit, the senior boys action begins today (Monday) in a pair of must-win battles. No. 3 New West hosting No. 6 Cariboo Hill, tipping off at 5:30 p.m. In the regular season, the Hyacks prevailed 102-86, but that game occurred nearly two months ago.
In the other quarterfinal, No. 4 Alpha plays Burnaby North, also at New West (7 p.m.). Alpha won the last time these two met, 95-86.
The winner of each game advances to the semifinals tomorrow (Tuesday), with the Cariboo/New West winner playing Byrne Creek at 7 p.m., while the Alpha/Bby North victor draws No. 1 seed and defending 4-A provincial champion Burnaby South (8:45 p.m.). Both tilts go at Burnaby South.
The league championship game is slated for Monday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. at Burnaby South.
On the senior girls side, play starts at 5:30 p.m. today (Monday) with No. 6 Alpha visiting Burnaby Central (No. 3), while No. 5 Moscrop takes on No. 4 Burnaby Mountain at 7 p.m. Both games are at Central.
Burnaby Central ran away with it the last time they encountered Alpha to the tune of 77-12. In their lone meeting, Burnaby Mountain edged Moscrop 70-53.
The winners of those games advance to the semifinals on Tuesday: Bby Mtn/Moscrop takes on No. 1 league champion Burnaby South at 7 p.m., while Alpha/Burnaby Central plays No. 2 Burnaby North.
The championship game is slated for Wednesday, 7 p.m. at Burnaby South.
