The bounty from Fort St. John was pretty hefty, as Burnaby athletes celebrated sport and community at the B.C. Winter Games last month.
Leading the medal haul were a pair of rhythmic gymnasts, Anne-Yee Scott and Sofia Samoylenko. The pair racked up seven gold medals between them, with Scott capturing four, including the final all-around.
Samoylenko topped her division's all-around as well, along with two other first-place results. She also finished second in individual rope.
New West's Vlada Ross topped individual rope, came in second in intermediate free, and third in individual choice en route to silver all around.
In karate, Alexandra Moreno scored a pair of gold, in the intermediate girls kumite and open divisions. She was also part of the Fraser River zone's kumite team that placed second and included fellow Burnaby athletes Anisha Nijjar, Nikita Sharma and Keira Tran.
Nijjar would add the girls advanced open kumite title, while Sharma finished second in both the advanced kumite and kumite 2 divisions.
The boys team of Rohin Dhaliwal,, Aidan Pareja, Olan Smith and Teegan Tanahara took silver in kumite. Finishing third in intermediate kumite was Kirstin Jan Vallejos.
In figure skating, Hailey Yu topped the women's pre-novice division, while Nathan Feng placed second in juvenile men's category.
Diar Shakimov claimed gold in the under-55-kilogram male division in judo. He was also part of a team silver, joining forces with Tobin Hinton, Zackery Joe, Luka Poledica, Liwen Zhang and New West's Dumitru Tarita. Joe secured an individual silver in u-38kg, Hinton in u34kg, and Tarita placed second in u66kg.
Badminton's Justin Chen, of Burnaby, and New West's Nicholas Susanto were part of a mixed team gold medal win.
In curling, the team skipped by Kazune Eugene Fei captured the boys title.
Valentina Matica scored silver on uneven bars and third on beam in junior Olympics 8 gymnastics, while Keita Kuramoto counted a bronze in floor en route to contributing to the boys team's silver medal.
Speed skating's Gabrielle Oetomo counted silver in the 400m girls short track, then joined forces with Ally Hoffman, among others, in capturing gold in the 3000m relay. The boys speed skating 3000m relay also won, with contributions from Burnaby Deryk Fong.
In cross-country skiing, Eamon Wilson finished third in the midget boys classic event.
The ringette team that included Burnaby's Josiah Cho, Sarah Okamura and Joanna Zhu and New West's Marissa Ascher placed third overall.
