Moscrop let down in Tier II playoff

Injuries, weather and no-shows spelled an ignominious defeat for the Moscrop Panthers in the first-round of B.C. high school Tier II football playoffs.

Injuries, weather and no-shows spelled an ignominious defeat for the Moscrop Panthers in the first-round of B.C. high school Tier II football playoffs.

Trailing 28-0 at half-time to Nanaimo, the Panthers were forced to default the remainder of the game when their starting quarterback left the game with an injury.

Moscrop was missing as many as 10 players off its starting roster and had no backup quarterback to start the game. During the game, two of the Panthers running backs also had to leave the game due to injury.

Moscrop head coach Craig Bymoen called the decision to halt the game as the hardest coaching decision he has ever had to make.

"I saw no point in watching any more guys risk serious injury," Bymoen said. "Nanaimo was teeing off on our guys and it was like watching your boxer in the corner taking multiple shots.

"I felt bad for the guys that practised all year and all week, only to be let down in the end by those guys that chose soccer and did not show up for the bus."
