Nelson Elementary School won the Burnaby equivalent of the triple crown of volleyball this month.
On Dec. 2, a Nelson volleyball team finished fourth overall but topped all other city schools in the process at the annual co-ed tournament hosted by Barton Lim at Burnaby Mountain Secondary School.
A week later, Nelson's boys' and girls' teams also won their respective competitive district playoffs.
The Nelson boys defeated Marlborough 25-19 to win the district championship at the Harry Jerome Sports Centre on Dec. 7. The Knighthawks advance with a win over previously unbeaten Sperling in the quarter-finals before knocking off Gilpin in the semifinal.
The following day, the Nelson girls completed the sweep, winning their first-ever district volleyball title following a 25-16 victory over Rosser Elementary at Cariboo Hill Secondary on Dec. 8. Nelson also defeated Gilpin in the girls' semifinal.
