The Notre Dame Jugglers took advantage of a road-weary Mt Boucherie Bears team and went on to a 34-21 win in a late-starting B.C. high school AAA football playoff game at B.C. Place on Friday.
The Jugglers scored five touchdowns, including two by senior fullback Ante Litre, against the third-place Okanagan conference Bears.
Litre tied the score 7-7 on a 21-yard pass reception from quarterback Joe Gabriele in the first quarter. In the fourth quarter, following a Michael Herdman fumble recovery, Litre plunged over the line from one-yard out for his second TD after putting the ball in position with a 26yard scamper.
Mike Aranzaso put the Jugglers up 14-7 on a fiveyard run after Gabriele returned an interception 20 yards to the Mt. Boucherie 20 on the opening play of the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Lerone Robinson gave Notre Dame a 21-7 lead on an eight-yard TD pass from Gabriele.
Anthony Quatrano then picked off Bears' QB Joe Court for the third time in the game with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter.
Quatrano finished off the play in the fourth quarter, catching a pass in the end zone on a Gabriele scramble.
Notre Dame will now face independent rival Vancouver College Fighting Irish in the quarter-finals, happening Saturday at noon at UBC's Thunderbird Stadium.
Also at UBC, the St. Thomas More Knights will take on Centennial, 52-14 winners over New Westminster in first-round action, on Friday at 8 p.m.
