SFU swims to win at Clan Cup

Simon Fraser University outpointed the University of Victoria and Team China for first place at the Clan Cup International swim meet. Meghan Quon led all Clan swimmers with a total of 39 points at the meet.

Meghan Quon led all Clan swimmers with a total of 39 points at the meet. Teammate Kristine Lawson garnered 36 points.

On the men's side, Greg Laughlin and Ciaren McDonnell compiled 27 and 22 points, respectively for SFU.

Twelve records were set at the two-day meet, including five on the final day.

Qing Li of China set a new meet record in the women's 100-metre breaststroke, finishing just half a second ahead of Simon Fraser Aquatic Club's Maria Chekanovych of Burnaby in a time of 1: 09.04.

Three-time Olympian Noriko Inada of Japan won the 100m backstroke by almost five seconds in a new record time of 58.81.

On the first day of the meet, SFU alumnus Andrew Poznikoff posted a new Clan Cup record in the men's 200m breast, winning the race in 2: 12.42.
