The two Burnaby summer swim clubs got terrific results at the Simon Fraser regionals two weeks ago at Central Park, when they nabbed a load of medals.
The Burnaby Mountain Mantas’ Armaan Basi, Jessie Hua, Samuel Kim, Shalynne Lee, Yolanda Ling, Fernando Lu and Christopher Ng scooped up four titles apiece, while the Burnaby Barracudas’ Ashley Ko was first in four events. Netting three wins and a bronze was Nathan Li.
Hua won the Div. 2 girls’ 50-metre backstroke and breaststroke, and 100m freestyle and individual medley, Ko finished first in Div. 3’s 50m butterfly, free, 100m IM and free races, and Lee won the Div. 7 50- and 100m fly and free events.
On the boys side, Kim won the Div. 5’s 50 and 100m fly, 100m free and 200m IM, and Ng was tops in the 50 and 100m free, 50m fly and 200m IM. Basi won the Cat. ‘O’ 2’s 50 and 100m free, 100m back and fly events, while Ling did the same in the girls Cat ‘O’ 2 side. The Mantas’ Li bolted to gold in Cat ‘O’ 2’s 50m fly, 100m free and 200m IM. The Barricudas’ Lu won the Div. 5 boys’ 50 and 100m free and 50m back.
