Wesburn United FC may have surprised even themselves, winning the recent Seattle Xtreme Cup select soccer tournament in Washington.
The under-12 Burnaby soccer players gave away as much as two years of age to their competition, while also playing 11-a-side on a full-sized pitch, but still went undefeated in the tournament en route to a 2-1 win over FPSC Tacoma in the gold-medal final Aug. 14.
Igor Strbac opened the scoring in the first half after Nikolas Bozic had hit the crossbar on a cross from midfielder Luka Jutric. Pat Falcome tallied the eventual game-winner midway through the second half.
Wesburn, which usually plays eight-a-side and on half a field, finished 4-0, scoring 21 goals for and two against.
