Windsor Elementary students sold popcorn and raised $1,000 for the Society to End Homelessness in Burnaby.
Carol-Ann Flanagan, coordinator of the Burnaby Task Force on Homelessness, said she is “so impressed” with the students who raised this money.
“It took a lot of popcorn selling to reach that goal,” she said in an email. “I’ve done a couple of presentations to schools lately and I’m impressed with the compassion young people show.”
The money will go to the society’s outreach centre, which is held every Thursday, for supplies, food, juice, bus tickets and other necessities.
On its thank you page, the society acknowledges the students saying “It is support like this that enables us to do our work and continue providing the necessary services to our less fortunate neighbours.”
The Society to End Homelessness in Burnaby is gearing up for the outreach centre’s Christmas event on Dec. 6 and then on the Coldest night of the Year event, which will take place on Feb. 23, 2019.
