Burnaby RCMP bike patrol officers have made a number of street-level drug and weapon seizures in June, including this scale, spring-loaded knife and collection of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine baggies, seized on June 4 in the Metrotown area.

Burnaby RCMP reported three drug seizures the bike cops have made already this month during the course of proactive patrols.

On June 4, they were in the area of Willingdon Avenue and Central Boulevard in Metrotown at about 1:30 p.m., when they came across a man and a woman openly in possession of a large quantity of drugs, according to police.

The officers seized a scale and eleven baggies of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine.

They also seized a double-bladed, spring-loaded folding knife shaped like a bat with outstretched blade-wings.

The man was arrested and faces charges for possession of a controlled substance, police said.

About an hour later that same day, in the 6400 block of Telford Avenue, officers located two people with multiple baggies of suspected methamphetamine in their possession.

A man arrested at the scene faces drug-possession-related charges.

On June 10, at about 11:30 a.m., bike squad members responded to a complaint that there was drug dealing going on between a man and two women in the 4000 block of Beresford Avenue.

Upon arrival, police located two women who fit the description provided by a witness, but no drugs were found on them.

While at the scene, though, one of the officers noticed a man fitting the witness’s description of the alleged drug dealer.

The officer approached the man and detained him, and a search produced suspected methamphetamine, which the suspect is alleged to have been selling in the area.

The man now faces potential drug-possession-related charges.

“Burnaby RCMP's bike section is continuing proactive patrols in crime hotspots and business areas,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in a news release. “These patrols have resulted in a dangerous weapon and drugs being taken off Burnaby streets.”
