Letter: Burnaby condo developments still need parking

SkyTrain isn't an option for everybody, this writer says.

Getting around: Highrise condo towers in Burnaby still need parking spaces because not everyone can use SkyTrain, this writer says.

Editor:

In regard to the maximum parking allowed in Burnaby development of highrises, I believe there should be at least one parking stall per unit/suite because people may not be able to use the SkyTraIn to get to work. Lots of people work quite far from where they live and not on a SkyTrain route.

An good example would be if you lived in Burnaby and worked in Maple Ridge, Langley, Cloverdale or Abbotsford, how are you going to get to work on the SkyTrain?

So these people still will need a vehicle, whether it be gas-powered or electric, and therefore they will need and deserve to own a parking stall in their building.
Otherwise, you're going to have to park on the street somewhere, and that's not a solution. It will just cause people to walk further and further to get to the car from their condos.

Another issue would be resale. How are you going to resell your condo if you don't have a parking stall and the person buying it has to travel to an area daily that's not serviced by the SkyTrain, either, or on a bus route, or takes up to two hours each way to get to work with a bus?

Come on, Mike Hurley and the Burnaby planning department!
