UniverCity resident and federal civil servant Mikelle Sasakamoose made history Saturday when she won a seat on the school board, becoming the first Indigenous person ever to be elected to political office in Burnaby.

The Burnaby Citizens Association has captured all seven seats on school board, but veteran trustee Gary Wong says that doesn't mean there won't be diversity at the table.

Incumbent Joe Keithley secures the single Burnaby Greens seat on council.

Voter turnout came in at a paltry 19.78 per cent.
