The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is bringing one of its largest events back to Burnaby.
The food bank announced on Wednesday the return of CANstruction, an annual fundraising and food raising activity that will run Nov. 3 to 11 at Lougheed Town Centre.
But it needs teams to sign up now to take part.
The event features teams from across the Lower Mainland competing in the design and building of fun, large structures made entirely out of nutritious canned foods.
Each team has 12 hours to build their structure on build day, and then structures are on display as art exhibits for one week to allow the public a chance to vote for their favourite structure. All of the proceeds of CANstruction Vancouver go towards the food bank, in support of the 27,000 members that the GVFB serves weekly. Since its beginning in 2002, CANstruction Vancouver has raised more than 1.3 million cans of food.
“After taking a year off, we are excited to announce the return of CANstruction Vancouver to our city, and the Greater Vancouver Food Bank is grateful for the partnership and support we are receiving from SHAPE Properties and Lougheed Town Centre to make this event a success,” said Cynthia Kinsella, chief development officer for the food bank, in a news release.“We can’t wait to see the fun, creative structures that all the teams come up with this year.”
CANstruction Vancouver is a challenging and fun team-building activity, with all teams focused towards a terrific cause. The event requires planning, building and lots of teamwork, and the payoff is an awards ceremony, the “ACANemy Awards,” where teams celebrate their achievements, celebrate their contributions to the GVFB, and meet their fellow competitors.
The deadline for local teams to sign up is July 31. Those interested in sponsoring the event are asked to contact [email protected].
