We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. We've moved publication to our Friday editions. This week, we have some events for Remembrance Day, a pancake breakfast and an important local cause to donate to.
1 Get remembering with Burnaby's biggest Remembrance Day ceremony, hosted by the Legion, on Friday, Nov. 11. The march starts at the Safeway underground parking lot (at 4400 Hastings St.) at 10: 30 a.m. People will march to the cenotaph in Confederation Park, where there will be a laying of wreaths ceremony and a moment of silent reflection at 11 a.m. For more information, call 604-298-6515.
2 Get skating for Remembrance Day at Kensington Complex, on Friday, Nov. 11. Regular admission applies. The skate is from 6: 30 to 9: 15 p.m., and Kensington Complex is at 3676 Kensington Ave. For more info, call 604-297-4535.
3 Get perusing your art gallery. Sunday, Nov. 13 is your last chance to check out Chance Operations: Collective Works on Paper by Rhonda Neufeld and Rodney Konopaki. The exhibit is at the Burnaby Art Gallery at 6344 Deer Lake Ave. Info: 604-297-4422 or www. burnabyartgallery.ca.
4 Get stuffed with flapjacks at the South Burnaby United Church's pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 12. The church is at 7591 Gray Ave.
The breakfast is sponsored by As One That Serves men's club, and proceeds go to worthy charitable causes.
5 Get donating to the Rotary Coats for Kids campaign. With one of the coldest winters in two decades expected this year, the annual Rotary Coats for Kids campaign needs more donations of gently used and new jackets to keep local children warm.
Volunteers have run out of donated coats and had to buy coats because demand has been so high this year.
Coats can be dropped off at Staples stores (at Burnaby locations and at the store on Grandview Highway in Vancouver) and Burnaby MP and MLA offices. For more collection sites, visit www.burnabymetrotown rotary.org.
