Burnaby politicians vying for a spot on council will have to wait to debate each other.
The meeting scheduled for this Wednesday, Oct. 26, by Burnaby Community Connections has been postponed until Thursday, Nov. 9.
The scheduling change was made as the original date conflicted with TEAM Burnaby's fundraiser on Wednesday, according to Stephen D'Souza, executive director of Burnaby Community connections.
The mayoral and council candidates' meeting is set for 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Stride Avenue Community School, at 7014 Stride Ave.
The 'meet your neighbours' section of the evening is scheduled from 6:30 to 7 p.m., with the candidates' debate running from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and an opportunity to meet the candidates from 8:30 to 9 p.m.
The all-candidates meeting for those running for school board on Tuesday, Nov. 1 has not changed. That meeting is scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion's office at 2702 Norland Ave., with the same events schedule as the mayor and council debate.
Child friendly activities will be provided at both, according to the Burnaby Inter-agency Council's release.
This means the all-candidates meeting on Thursday, Nov. 3, scheduled by the Burnaby Heights Neighbourhood Association, will kick off the debate season.
The debate is scheduled to take place at Gilmore Community School, at 50 S. Gilmore Ave. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a question-and-answer period from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Topics covered will include traffic, policing, parks and recreation, Brentwood redevelopment and density, according to the association.
The Civic Association of Iranian Canadians is co-hosting an all-candidates' meeting with the Capitol Hill Hall Association on Friday, Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the hall, at 361 S. Howard Ave.
The association is hosting all-candidates meetings in five cities in the region in advance of the election.
Burnaby residents will be electing a mayor, eight councillors and seven school trustees in the election, which takes place on Saturday, Nov. 19.
