A little good news for one Burnaby family as a stolen truck that served as a “lifeline” for them has been recovered.

The Burnaby RCMP told the NOW in an email that a stolen 1996 Mazda B3000 pickup truck was recovered on Valentine’s Day.

“The vehicle was left in a parking lot in the area of Henning Drive and Gilmore Avenue,” said police. “There were clear signs that the vehicle was broken into. There was also damage to the ignition. The vehicle was seized and towed to a secure lot. The registered owner has been notified of the recovery and advised that their vehicle will be released upon the completion of a forensic examination.”

The senior had contacted the NOW about the theft on Feb. 3 when someone stole the vehicle right out of her driveway.

“I am a 77-year-old single woman with modest means,” she told the NOW, wanting to keep her name anonymous. “My prized possession of a beat-up old truck was stolen. I usually secure it with a bar across the steering wheel as it’s cheaper than buying theft insurance; however I didn’t that night as I was too tired after grocery shopping. My food was also gone with the truck.”

The senior said she is the “taxi driver” for two teenage grandchildren.

“Now that taxi is gone,” she said at the time.
