A COVID-19 outbreak that claimed one life at a Burnaby long-term care home has been declared over.
In a statement today (Dec. 13), Fraser Health said with the implementation of comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in care facilities, that there are no longer any cases at the facility.
According to last week's Weekly COVID-19 Long Term Care, Assisted Living and Independent Living Outbreak Report, one death had been reported at the facility as of Dec. 7.
In an emailed statement to the NOW on Dec. 1, Fraser Health said there had been 24 lab-confirmed cases involving 16 staff and eight staff members.
The case count went unchanged from Dec. 1 to today.
The outbreak at the facility was formally declared on Nov. 8, when there were 10 cases discovered.
Last November, the George Derby Centre endured a tragic outbreak with 36 lives lost among 109 COVID-19 cases.
The authority said they proactively implemented the following measures at the facility:
- Staffing levels are being supported to maintain resident care
- Social visits are restricted in the affected areas of the facility. Essential visits can continue
- Staff and resident movement in the affected areas of the facility has been modified to minimize exposure to others
- Cleaning and infection control measures have been further enhanced
- Residents, families and staff are being notified
- Twice-a-day screening of all staff and residents is taking place
- Additional testing and screening is in place to support monitoring of disease control
