Eight COVID-19 cases detected in outbreak at Burnaby care home

More COVID-19 cases continue to be detected at a Burnaby retirement residence under a COVID-19 outbreak decleration. 

According to the latest COVID-19 Long Term Care, Assisted Living and Independent Living Report for Nov. 4, eight cases have now been confirmed at the Swedish Assisted Living Residence. 

An outbreak was declared by Fraser Health at the facility on Oct. 19, 2021, when three cases were discovered. 

The care home, located at 7230 Halifax St., is an assisted living centre owned and operated by the Swedish Canadian Rest Home Association.

Fraser Health says its implemented the following extra measures when declaring the outbreaks:

  • Supporting staff levels to maintain resident care
  • Restricting social visits in the affected areas of the facility (Essential visits can continue)
  • Modifying staff and residents movement in the affected areas of the facility
  • Enhancing cleaning and infection control measures
  • Notifying residents, families and staff
  • Screening staff and residents twice a day
  • Conducting additional testing and screening

Outbreaks also continue to affect Burnaby facilities Cascade Gardens Seniors Community and Rideau Retirement Living.
