Police say impairment is suspected in a Burnaby crash that sent two pedestrians to hospital Tuesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the area of North Road and Lougheed Highway at about 5:20 p.m. for reports of a collision involving a pickup truck and two pedestrians.

Photos of the scene show a badly damaged truck and multiple downed light poles.

"The two adult female victims were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries," Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in an emailed statement Wednesday morning.

Traffic in the area was affected for several hours.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, according to Kalanj.

"The driver remained on scene; however, impairment is suspected," he said.
