Once upon a time, there was a charming neighbourhood called Burnaby Heights made up of merchants and residents who wanted to bring the community together with an event to bring people out of their homes and onto car-free streets.
Now, this year’s day of festivities is fast approaching as Hats Off Day is set to kick off with an “enchanting” fairytale theme on Hastings Street Saturday, June 1.
With a family fun dash followed by a parade, the event includes live music and roving entertainers.
Hats Off Day is a longstanding Burnaby tradition for merchants in the Heights to “take their hats off” to show their appreciation for the community.
“While we’re following a fairytale theme this year, the real magic of Hats Off Day is how it brings our neighbourhood and all of Burnaby together,” said Isabel Kolic, executive director of the Heights Merchants Association.
She encouraged guests to wear costumes for the “Once Upon a Time” theme, whether they want to dress up as a fairy, dragon, hero or princess.
The family fun dash (which you can sign up for here) will start at 9:30 and the parade will begin at 10 a.m.
After that, the street party will revel from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a vintage show-and-shine featuring more than 100 vintage vehicles and sports cars.
