Tragedy has struck a Burnaby long-term care home amid an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
An updated report from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) shows there have been 90 confirmed cases, as of Tuesday (Oct. 12), and three lives lost at Burnaby's Willingdon Care Centre.
Fraser Health issued the alert for the facility (Cedar Lane and Birch Lane) on Sept. 27, saying one case involving a resident had been identified which prompted enhanced control measures to be put in place.
During a news conference yesterday (Oct. 14), B.C. health minister Adrian Dix said the unofficial death toll could be at least 10.
"Willingdon is currently, by a significant margin, our most significant outbreak," Dix said.
The weekly COVID-19 Long Term Care, Assisted Living and Independent Living Outbreak Report states 69 cases are among residents — along with the three confirmed deaths.
There have been 21 cases identified among staff members at the facility.
As of Oct. 14, there are 19 active healthcare facility outbreaks across the province.
