Burnaby came out to celebrate and honour National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21 at Edmonds Park and Plaza.
In partnership with Spirit of the Children Society, the City of Burnaby hosted the family-friendly event with a variety of festivities - and free bannock.
Featuring a variety of artists, including Métis singer Sandy Scofield and Plains Cree poet/rapper and spoken word artist Tawahum, the event also highlighted performances by Haida hoop dancer Jane Wylie and Chesha7 iy lha muns group.
Matriarch and elder Kultsia Barbara Wyss shared stories of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) from her books The Story of the Squamish People: 1901-2022 and Story of the Squamish People: Story from 1800 to 1900.
An artisan market displayed original artworks, prints, jewelry, beadwork, leatherwork and more.
Dene artist Breanna Deis showcased her beadwork and Indigenized dolls.
