A residential park in Burnaby is now home to more than just the usual trees and foliage.

A small, single pot plant has also been growing in Meadowood Park near the Forest Grove area of the city.

It’s not clear how the plant got there, but a CBC News story Thursday reported that the tip came from Overgrow Canada, a cannabis advocacy organization.

Reporters for the NOW examined the herb but were unable to determine how long the plant was in the park, or if it was planted from seed or put there by someone after it matured.

The NOW was also unable to determine if the plant was male or female and if it could indeed be harvested and smoked.

After a quick search of the area, there didn’t appear to be any more buds in the park.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, the plant was still in the park.

The NOW contacted the City of Burnaby officials for comment, but calls were not immediately returned.
