Public transit offers inspiration for art exhibition

Chances are that last time you boarded a bus, you weren't thinking about its artistic potential. But while others may consider buses only a mundane form of transportation, Cindy Buckshon considers them inspiration for art.

Chances are that last time you boarded a bus, you weren't thinking about its artistic potential.

But while others may consider buses only a mundane form of transportation, Cindy Buckshon considers them inspiration for art.

Transit Roots, an exhibition of transit artwork by Buckshon, is on at the Burnaby Arts Council's Deer Lake Gallery until March 3.

The gallery, at 6584 Deer Lake Ave., is open Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free. See www.burnabyartscouncil. org.

DRAMA FOR SPRING

Theatre lovers, now's your chance to check out the brand new theatre space at Burnaby Central Secondary.

The school is hosting its spring play, Jabberwock, on March 13, 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. The play is based on the life of James Thurber and takes place before, during and after the First World War.

"It is about a young boy who finds out what it takes to grow up and become a man while discovering what war really means," an email explains.

The play was written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee and has been adapted by drama teacher Carol Mann to incorporate elements from Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

The new theatre at Burnaby Central holds just over 200 people.

On opening night, there will be a free gala for the audience after the show.

Tickets are $7 for students and seniors, and $10 regular. Buy through the school at 604-296-6850.
