Free. Tacos.
Arguably two of the best words in the English language, especially when put together, and that's how a B.C. Mexican restaurant franchise is celebrating its expansion to Burnaby.
Tacofino hosted a soft opening opened on Feb. 2 at its Station Square location — 6036 McKay Ave. — in Metrotown and will now welcome more local foodies to its grand opening weekend starting tomorrow, Feb. 9.
The first 500 guests on Friday, Saturday and Sunday are set to receive a free taco coupon redeemable for between March 1 and April 30.
"Tacofino Metrotown is a really important opening for the whole Tacofino family," said Tacofino Managing Partner Gino Di Domenico in a release sent to the NOW.
"We have so many friends and fans in this vibrant part of Burnaby, and it’s exciting to be able to join their community and feed hungry taco lovers!"
Tacofino started on the shores of Tofino, B.C., in a food truck on the parking lot of surf shop. Burnaby will be the 11th in-seat location for the business since its inception.
"We are inspired by the bold flavours and back alley BBQs we have encountered while hitting up surf destinations all over the world, and the tortilla is a beautiful vessel to bring it all together," a statement reads on Tacofino's website.
"We strive to make you feel like you are recharging on a beach every time you enjoy our food. And of course we love to support local farmers. It’s all about having our meat clean and keeping the oceans happy."
The 40-seat Tacofino Metrotown restaurant's menu includes something for every meal of the day from breakfast burritos to "Tuesday Average Nachos."
"Tacofino’s culinary team has been hard at work creating an expanded menu which combines iconic Tacofino favourites like the fish taco and crispy chicken burrito with new options like Gringas, piping hot cheesy perfection made with cheese, lime crema, salsa fresca, and choice of protein inside a freshly grilled tortilla," a news release explains.
The Metrotown location also includes designs by Shiloh Sukkau and graphics by Courtney Presber. The space was built by Made by Pacific.
Tacofino in Burnaby will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
