The Scandinavian Cultural Society and the Icelandic Canadian Club of BC are throwing open their doors this Saturday for Leif Erikson Day.
The free event will celebrate Vikings and volcanoes.
You can check out the Viking ship “Munin,” a half-size working replica on the grounds of the Scandinavian Centre, and talk to the team who built her.
Kids can take pictures wearing Viking clothing beside the ship and sit on the Viking throne.
With live presentations and film showings, displays, kids’ crafts (make your own Viking helmet and more), the event will explore Viking culture and the life of Leif Erikson.
A volcanologist will be on hand to discuss Icelandic volcanoes and the possibility of future volcanic eruption – and there will be information on how Iceland warms its homes with geothermal heat from below the ground.
Don’t forget to try the delicious Icelandic baking on hand.
For more information, including a schedule of activities, see the event webpage.
