A Burnaby travel agency and wholesaler, located at 6927 Kingsway, closed its doors as of May 11, according to Consumer Protection B.C.
The business is listed as Shilla Tours and Travel Ltd. in Consumer Protection B.C.'s records.
The business was listed for sale for $27,000 on a real estate website in April.
Consumer Protection B.C., a not-for profit corporation, put out the press release regarding the closure to alert consumers who might be impacted. Travellers who made arrangements with Shilla Tours but have not received their travel documents should contact Consumer Protection B.C., as they may be eligible to claim against the Travel Assurance Fund.
"The Travel Assurance Fund provides compensation for consumers who did not receive the contracted travel services they purchased through a B.C. licensed travel agent," the release stated.
The fund has paid out more than $146,000 and assisted more than 60 consumers this year.
Consumer Protection B.C. has also reimbursed travel agents who prevented consumer loss by either reimbursing consumers, or providing travel services at their own expense when a travel supplier goes out of business, the release added.
