'Unacceptable': Police called to another fight at Burnaby golf course

An intoxicated 43-year-old man was arrested at the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course and faces possible charges for assault with a weapon.

For the second time in four months, police were called to a Burnaby golf course to deal with an altercation between golfers.

Officers responded to the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course just before 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 12, according to an emailed statement from Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj.

"When police arrived, the intoxicated 43-year-old male suspect was still on scene and immediately taken into custody with no incident," Kalanj said.

Police were told the suspect hit three male victims with a golf club after a brief verbal dispute, according to Kalanj.

All victims sustained minor injuries.

The suspect now faces possible charges of assault with a weapon.

He has been released pending a court date.

"This is the second time Burnaby officers have dealt with a fight at a golf course since June," Kalanj said. "It is unacceptable to engage in a physical altercation like this at a recreational facility. Luckily there were no serious injuries."

Part of the alleged assault was caught on a video posted on social media.

The video shows two men engaged in a verbal dispute by a tee box before one man swings at the other with a driver, appearing to snap the head off the club and knocking the man to the ground.

In June, police were called to break up a fight between two groups of golfers at the Riverway Golf Course.

A video of that altercation showed several men kicking, punching and grappling with each other
