This March, Burnaby Neighbourhood House (BNH) invites you to an unforgettable evening of glamour and community spirit at its Annual Fundraiser Gala. Set to the vibrant theme of “New York, New York,” the event promises live entertainment, exciting auctions and a chance to make a real difference for Burnaby’s most vulnerable residents.
"Most attendees who come to the event every year say it’s a lot of fun and love how there’s a mix of ways to support," says Antonia Beck, chief executive officer at BNH.
A night in New York, right here in Burnaby
Scheduled for March 15, this year's gala offers an evening filled with entertainment and opportunities to give back. The evening begins with a cocktail hour, featuring a photo booth, themed games with door prizes and networking opportunities. An online auction, which goes live two weeks prior, will culminate with an in-person viewing and a live auction during the event—always an exciting highlight. Additionally, a shopping spree raffle offers guests the chance to win big prizes. In line with the Big Apple theme, guests will enjoy live entertainment by seasoned Frank Sinatra impersonator, Ronnie Scott.
While the gala is quite literally fun and games, it also serves a critical purpose: raising funds for some of BNH's most underfunded programs.
From glamour to giving back
The Burnaby Neighbourhood House provides accessible, community-driven programs and services that address critical needs such as food security, youth development, senior support, childcare and newcomer integration in Burnaby. With a diverse range of volunteer-led programs—ranging from wellness and art classes to English conversation groups and sewing workshops—residents can participate at no cost.
Proceeds from the gala will directly support these initiatives, in addition to the Community Engagement Program and the Welcoming Place, the heart of BNH's three houses, which include Burnaby Community Services, Burnaby Meals on Wheels and Burnaby Seniors Outreach Services Society.
Many locals may not know that BNH operates two Food Hubs at the Community Hall on Rumble Street and North House on Hastings Street, supporting 1,500 households each week. “These funds really make a difference where they’re needed most,” says Beck.
Help Burnaby look forward
Attendance at the gala, with tickets currently available online HERE, is essential to supporting Burnaby's most vulnerable populations, including seniors, families, individuals and newcomers, BNH has ambitious plans to help more residents thrive in 2025 and beyond.
New initiatives on the horizon include the "Fix it Café," a volunteer-led program connecting handy volunteers with community members needing items repaired and the "Neighbourlies" children's birthday party social enterprise, developed in collaboration with BNH's youth leadership team.
Every ticket counts
If you can’t attend this year’s event, there are regular volunteer opportunities abound; from supporting Food Hubs and seniors programs to assisting with computer drop-in sessions, income tax clinics and special events. “It’s a fantastic place for anyone looking to get more involved in their community,” says Beck. "There’s really something for everyone.”
Attending the BNH Annual Fundraiser Gala offers more than an evening of entertainment; it provides a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the well-being and resilience of the Burnaby community. Join your neighbours in making a difference—because we can only build a stronger Burnaby if we build it together.
